Haunting Breaks was formed in 2004 in response to the growing interest in the paranormal created by TV programmes such as Living TV’s "Most Haunted". The founders, Carol Bowen and Peter Turner, both have experience in this area and saw an opportunity to create a niche travel company that offered paranormal enthusiasts and novices the chance to experience some of the things that had been seen in the media at first hand. The company prides itself on "hand-picking" venues that are chosen for their amenities, location and food as well as a history of hauntings.

Haunting Breaks’ highly trained staff includes professional psychics. Staff ensure that each guest is personally cared for and is given the opportunity to opt out of any activity they are not comfortable with.

Toyah Wilcox

“Haunting Breaks are passionate that their clients have a paranormal experience, which is why they take care to choose venues where unsuspecting members of the public have historically been scared  out of their pants by ghostly goings on. The break I experienced was great fun and packed with paranormal activity.

comments Toyah Wilcox who recently enjoyed a private Haunting Break with six of her closest friends at Bolebroke Castle, Sussex

History of any haunting or ghosts at your hotel: Here it was that Captain Powell created his neo-gothic castle at Cae Bryn Melin bach on the site above the river and close to his father’s home. In 1843 the family moved in and Captain Powell settled to the life of a country gentleman becoming a county magistrate and a High Sheriff of Brecknock. Although both he and his father married well misfortune began to fall upon the family when cholera took his younger son in 1851. He suffered the loss of his wife and his daughter before he died in 1862. Two years later the eldest son was killed in a hunting accident on the Isle of Wight. Sarah the eldest daughter had married a Captain Allaway and the couple remained at the castle after the death of her brother until tragedy struck once more when Captain Allaway died a few years later. His widow moved to Tenby shortly before the property was sold in 1875-76. The Dutch family Overbeek of Calcutta and Capetown were connected by blood and it was thought that the hint of their curse overshadowed the Powell family.
